The International seminar Social Transformation in Latin American Countries since Independence, sponsored by The Latin American Studies Center and the World Modern and Modern History Research Center of Nankai University and co-organized by the Latin American History Research Institute of China and the History School of Nankai University, was held on the Internet platform from 7-8 November 2020. More than 50 experts and scholars from China, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Dominican Republic and other countries were invited to attend the conference, 23 of whom made keynote speeches at the conference.
The opening ceremony of the conference was presided by Professor Han Qi, President of China Latin American History Society and deputy Director of the Center for World Modern History of Nankai University. Professor Yang Dongliang, Director of the Center for World Modern History of Nankai University delivered the opening speech. Professor Yang Dongliang affirmed the academic value and practical significance of the conference. He pointed out that Since the independence of Latin American countries in the early 19th century, the road of social transformation has been tortuous and difficult, and the transformation of Latin American countries is still on the road. Therefore, Latin America is a laboratory for the social transformation of developing countries, and studying the transformation of Latin American countries has unique academic value. Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, China has gone through unprecedented social change, Yang said. The fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China put forward the goal of the next stage for China's economic development, which shows that China's development has entered a new transition period. Research around the world, including Latin American countries the experience of social transformation, the current social transition in China has important practical significance, we should not only focus on the historical transformation, at the same time, through history, to look to the future , through communication and discussion, deepening the independent Latin American countries since the problem of understanding and the understanding of social transformation, thus contributing to the harmonious development and progress of the world wisdom.
